Who is this course suitable for?

This qualification is designed for learners wishing to develop their understanding of Dementia Care. They may be learners who wish to access this training with a view to progress to further qualifications, or learners who wish to study this programme in order to complement other studies.

What the course covers

In our level 2 Principles of Dementia Care course, you will learn all about approaches to dementia care. You’ll gain insight into how dementia affects the way people behave and interact, as well as how best to communicate with people who have dementia.

Once you have completed the course you should have:

• Gained an understanding dementia, including person-centred care and administration of medication
• Gained an understanding how dementia can influence communication and behaviour, and the benefits of engaging in social activities

Course Overview:

This course consists of these mandatory units:

• Understand the different forms of dementia
• Learn how to support individuals through person-centred care
• Develop knowledge and understanding of care
• Learn positive communication methods
• Learn issues around the use of medication

What are the entry requirements?

• Learners must be 16+
• Resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than to study
• Must not be already on an apprenticeship
